Dear Serious People

A big welcome to all new members.

We have a new campaign launching this week. It's really great, skip to the end to see it if you are in a hurry (to avoid tax).

Before that, we have one and a half wins to share.

One and a half wins

Working with Clean Cities Campaign this year, we launched an idea called carspreading to describe how ever growing SUVs are taking over our cities. Once you see it you can't unsee it and carspreading has been in the news more or less continuously. In October, Cardiff council took action by making heavier cars pay more for parking. Many other councils are poised to follow their brilliant example.

Second. As part of Gunners for Peace we've been asking Arsenal FC to ditch shirt sponsor Visit Rwanda due to Rwanda's support for the violent militia wreaking havoc in the DRC this year. Anyone is better than Visit Rwanda, we said, even Tottenham. Visit Tottenham and Gunners for Peace went global, showing up on German national TV news and contributing to rival football giant Bayern Munich dropping their shirt sponsorship with Visit Rwanda. Frustratingly, it looks like Arsenal are on the cusp of renewing their deal, we're still doing everything we can to make it clear that fans want a better sponsor.

Pay tax like a billionaire

Did you know that private jets don't pay any fuel duty? Thats's mad, isn't it. A UK motorist will pay more in fuel duty to drive to a hospital appointment than a billionaire will pay to fly between their mansions. There's a very funny video you can watch straightaway. Here's the longer version for the connoisseurs.

The best idea would be for billionaires to pay tax on fuel duty. Taxing private jets fairly could raise around £2bn every year in the UK. The next best idea might be for everybody to have access to the same tax loophole. Introducing, WeWingAnyCar.com. We launched this week with a billboard in Rachel Reeves' Yorkshire constituency as she wrestles with really hard budget maths, staring intently at numbers on a spreadsheet as private jets fly over her head.

On Wednesday, we landed a car with wings in Westminster , the same morning that Rachel Reeves gave her pre-budget speech with former pilot Todd Smith and campaigners from Possible and Flight Free UK. We presented new polling showing that three quarters of the British public think private jets should pay at least the same as or more fuel duty than cars (including a clear majority for higher fuel duty, 54%). This rises to 79% among Labour voters and 78% among Reform voters. Just 7% of the population think private jets should remain exempt from fuel duty.
