This campaign is wild but it could hardly be more important.
The Rwandan government is funding M23, a brutal paramilitary group in Eastern Congo which is carrying out mass rape and recruiting child soldiers. The situation in Eastern Congo is really urgent right now - thousands of people have been killed this year alone.
Visit Rwanda is a terrible sponsor for a great club like Arsenal - even the UK government has announced sanctions on Rwanda in the past few weeks. As Arsenal fans, we think that anything, literally anything, would be a better sponsor for the club.
Gunners for Peace
Answering a call from Congolese activists, we created a new supporters group called Gunners For Peace. Our campaign launched today with:
- A billboard right by the Arsenal stadium
- A spoof tourism ad for Visit Tottenham
- New Gunners for Peace armbands for players and supporters.
The fans agree
Our opinion poll found that 58% of Arsenal fans ALREADY want Arsenal to drop Visit Rwanda. Visit Tottenham is a joke with a serious punchline. It’s hard to think of a worse sponsor than Visit Rwanda, and we wanted to make this point to Arsenal fans in a way they would immediately understand.
End the sponsorship
We're asking the Arsenal board to drop Visit Rwanda as a sponsor in time for next season.
